Chief Obafemi Awolowo's widow endorses Osinbajo - APC

Lol. Looks like some GEJ supporters are jumping ship. Weeks after the Presidency specially released a statement congratulating Mrs H.I.D Awolowo and promised to participate in the celebration of her landmark 100th birthday in 2015, Premium Times is reporting that she has endorsed Osinbajo of the opposition party.
'“I am very grateful this morning to see that Yemi Osinbajo is going to higher ground and it is my prayer that he will get there. I urge you all to support his aspiration. God will take you there,” she reportedly said.
The call came when Prof. Osinbajo paid a visit to the matriarch at her Ikenne home. Mrs. Awolowo expressed gratitude to God over the choice of Osinbajo as the running mate of Buhari and sought the support of the people of Ikenne in particular and Nigerians in general to make the dream come true.

10 top social media moments of the year

#BringBackOurGirls
This is arguable the best and most important hast tag in the history of social media activism in Nigeria.
In April, more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped by terrorist organisation, Boko Haram, which prompted Nigerian social media users to start an intense online campaign with the hash tag #BringBackOurGirls.
The hash tag which was first used by, Ibrahim M Abdullahi- a lawyer in Abuja- became a phenomenon, with millions of mentions daily on social media platforms. The campaign was so intense that it drew the attention of the whole world, and even the First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama, who also joined in the campaign.
The hash tag #BringBackOurGirls began to trend globally on Twitter as the story continued to spread and by May 11 it had attracted 2.3 million tweets
Beard gang
The latest trendy gang to belong to now as a male is the #BeardGang. It got so big on social media that our Nigerian celebrities had to join in the fun.
2Shotz during the year in review took to his Instagram account to reveal that he has joined the train of the #Beardgang. “Bearded; if you are a man and you aren’t got this look…grow some cause your gill keeps starring,” the rapper wrote alongside a snap of his bearded face on Instagram.
Jim Iyke was another celeb that joined the gang.  “When u tell bae ur indoors watching movies buh ur boiz post pics of y’all Wildin out! “I’m here love! All dressed up buh indoors still watching movies. #lol joining the #BeardGang.”

‘There is god oo’
When militants of the insurgent group, Boko Haram, in April, abducted more than 200 girls from a school in Chibok town of Borno State, the whole country was thrown into sadness.
Various campaigns were embarked through social media, street marches, petitions and various other means and the failure of the Government to rescue them left us with nothing to smile about
Then came our First Lady, Patience Jonathan who is known for her comic use of the English Language. “Na only u waka come,” she jarred on national television while addressing the principal of the school the girls were kidnapped from.
There is God oo,” “All these blood you are sharing, there is God oo. There is God in anything we are doing,” she says in a video which became quite a comic sensation across social media platforms.

GEJ to Nigerians-You would praise me when I leave office President Jonathan says Nigerians will praise and appreciate him more when he leaves office. He said all the criticisms he has received from Nigerians so far is expected of any serving leader. He said it's only when leaders leave office that people will begin to see and appreciate their good works. Pres. Jonathan made this remark while receiving the state Governor Dickson Seriake and traditional rulers from Bayelsa state at the Presidential villa in Abuja today December 30th "I always say that I will not even expect praises now because hardly do people praise serving leaders. It is when you leave, people will begin to know. When you leave, people will begin to compare what you have done over the period vis-a-vis what others have done, then they will compare you with whoever takes over. Probably that is the time some people will begin to say good about you. But I will do my best to make sure that we do change things. We are trying to create enabling environment for our economy to thrive irrespective of the challenges we are having in the petroleum sector and the security challenges we have. I will do my best so that by the time I will leave, you will be able to say that when our son was there, he served the country well so that one day, another son of Bayelsa may be given another opportunity to serve Nigerians", he said.

Ondo monarch’s wife killed after family pays N2M ransom

The Olori’s corpse was found at a meeting point in the state where her family was initially to drop the N2 million ransom.

Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State
The abducted wife of the Oba Lumure Ayelomi of Ayeka in the Okitipupa area of Ondo State, Olori Dupe has been found dead 10 days after she was reportedly kidnapped.
The Olori’s corpse was found at a meeting point where her family was to drop the ransom, Vanguard reports.
The kidnappers were initially said to have demanded a ransom of N30 million but accepted N2 million after pleas made by the family.
However, the Olori’s abductors were apparently dissatisfied with the amount and proceeded to take her life even after collecting the money.
A search party organized by the family reportedly stumbled upon the victim’s corpse around Ode-Aye, along Ore Road.
The incident has been confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Wole Ogodo who assured that the Olori’s killers would be fished out and justice would be done.

TB Joshua Speaks On 2015 Elections

Prophet T.B. Joshua granted a rare interview to Nigeria’s New Telegraph newspaper in March 2014 in which he made several revealing statements concerning the February 2015 elections. With the date of elections steadily drawing closer and tensions arising around the nation, the clerics words appear even more pertinent now than they did nine months ago.

TB Joshua warns politicians not to derail the nation’s democracy. He spoke with TAI ANYANWU. Here is the transcript of the interview:

There are so many troubles in Nigeria today - problems of insecurity, threats to national unity, political manoeuvrings by rival political parties. What are your comments concerning these troubled times in the country?
It is a normal thing for a country that has a bright future, God’s promise. A bright future always attracts persecution, condemnation and enemies who realise that the future is bright - you see a lot of pressure and threats. The country is on the path to greatness; it will compete with any Western nation in the future and the Western nations know that Nigeria is going to be a giant. That is why there support in these trying times is needed. There is no country that has not passed through this.

All the countries that have become great today all passed through turbulence that nearly consumed them. How we manage the situation matters. If we don’t manage it well, we will not witness the greatness. It is not that the greatness would not come but that would not be for our generation. The greatness will still come but for the coming generation.

With the turbulence being experienced in some states of the federation and the election around the corner next year, how do you think this will play out?
Elections will not happen in some states because of the frequent attacks. This could affect between three to four states. The states would be a no-go area due to violence and elections would not take place in those states unless we move closer to God. We must intensify our prayers. This is what God has showed me and you can imagine what would happen if elections don’t hold in those states. It would have a great implication for our democracy.

How should we manage it?
We should not allow the politicians to politicise all the areas of our lives. For example if you want to enjoy anything, you have to be part of their party. For example, unless you are part of their party, you cannot benefit from things that should be available to you as a citizen. Look at electricity, health etc - they have politicised everything. Religion has been politicised. Even Christianity has been politicised. They go to church; the pulpit is where they campaign now.

Now they go to churches and mosques to bomb them. These are people in church who had gone to pray for themselves. Must everybody become a politician? How we handle the situation at hand now matters. If the situation is not well managed, we will find ourselves postponing the great Nigeria. In other words, we would not witness it but it would be witnessed by our children.

Don’t let us politicise every area of our lives. Let us carefully play our politics with keen decency because 2015 matters in the history of Nigeria. It is either we cross the bridge successfully or it collapses. A good Nigerian that wants this greatness should be able to pay whatever proper price that is needed to be paid to make this dream of a great Nigeria possible. If your being in politics will make this greatness come, then join. From now to 2015 is a very important period in the history of Nigeria and if we don’t manage the situation well, our democracy would be rubbished.

What do you mean by 'our democracy would be rubbished'?
A situation where there would be lawlessness in the sense that the law would not be capable of guiding us because of the pros (for) and cons (against) as contained in the law. That would now take so much time which would lead Nigeria to a discussion table. Where would you and I be at that time?

What can you say about APC and PDP?
In body we can call it APC and PDP but in spirit, they are one and the same thing. I am yet to see the difference. I am looking forward to seeing the difference.

With the situation in the country today and the agitation on 2015, what advice do you have for politicians not to create more tension in the polity and what is the way out?
The advice - many of us need to leave politics while many others need to join in order to inject fresh blood. The people that need to leave politics are not the common people. This is in order to avert the disaster that could rubbish our democracy.

Cause of Ebola outbreak was 'a young boy playing near colony of infected bats', scientists say

Scientists said today that the cause of the deadly Ebola virus that hit West Africa this year was a 2 year old boy, known as patient zero, who played on a tree near a colony of virus-infested bats in his village in Meliandou, Guinea. He was the first person to die but before he died, he infected other family members, who then spread it to others and the virus eventually spread into other areas in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and Senegal, before moving to the US, UK and Spain.

This Ebola outbreak is by far the largest ever-recorded outbreak and it has killed about 7,800 people by Dec. 17, 2014, according to WHO.
