Obasanjo warned Nigerian politicians against electoral violence

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo warned Nigerian politicians against electoral violence and advised voters not to be enticed into committing electoral misconducts before, during and after the February election.

Former president was speaking at the meeting with the association of Igbo Communities of Lagos and Ogun States led by Ohaneze Ndigbo Ogun State, Ogbueti Nkeze, at his Presidential Hilltop residence in Abeokuta.

Obasanjo also advised electorates to be armed with their Permanent Voter Cards, saying one cannot get good leadership without participating.
He said: “If we say we want good governance, it is something that we are going to use to get that good governance, and that is our votes.
“Therefore, I beg you to go and get your PVC. It is your passport to good governance. If you cannot vote, you cannot get good governance, you cannot have a say in those in government. My own is in my wallet and it is only if you want to steal my money that you can get to see my PVC,” he said.
Obasanjo also doubted why aspirants should recourse to violence after poll.
I cannot understand why we must engage in violence. Don’t let anybody lure you or use you for electoral violence. Elections should be free, fair and transparent. If you don’t win, take it in good stride, believing that next time you will win. But if you go into violence, you may not even be alive to contest for another election, which you are now going to win. So, my people tell our people not to engage in electoral violence”.
According to the President of the Association, Nkeze the appointment was intended to classify with the ex-President and search for his leadership in the next political indulgence.

The traditional head of the Igbo, Willy Ejimkonye, prayed for the Obasanjo family before conferring the title of Enyi Nndigbo which literarily means Friend of the Igbos in Ogun State.
However, as less than a months is left before the presidential elections in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties signed a pact to avoid actions that could endorse violence during and after the polls.
It should be noted that Obasanjo has recently met with two key presidential aspirants for the forthcoming February polls incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).

Toure Hails Bony Signing

Wilfried Bony
–Says Cote d’Ivoire team-mate will be brilliant for City
Yaya Toure has predicted Ivory Coast team-mate Wilfried Bony will be a certain success at Manchester City.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is convinced new club team-mate and Ivory Coast compatriot Wilfried Bony will be “brilliant” for the Premier League outfit.
Bony secured his move to the Etihad this week, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal after Swansea City agreed to let the Ivory Coast striker leave.

Toure and Bony will both be focused on the Africa Cup of Nations over the next few weeks as they aim to lead their country to its second title, with both starting in Ivory Coast’s 2-0 defeat to Sweden in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

But Toure cannot wait to see the 26-year-old forward in sky blue in the Premier League.
“He’s a good player and I think he’s going to be a brilliant player for the club,” Toure said after the loss to Sweden.

“Now he’s a [club] team-mate we’re all looking forward.”
Toure is also confident Ivory Coast can make an impact in Equatorial Guinea, as they face Guinea, Mali and Cameroon in Group D before potential involvement in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and tournament decider.

“It’s an important competition for African players … we will see, our first game is on the 20th of January,” the midfielder said.
“It’s going to be tough but we’ve got the team to do it.”

227 Nigerian soldiers protest unlawful dismissal

227 soldiers serving in the North Eastern zone of Nigeria have protested their alleged dismissal from the Nigerian Army by the General Officer Commanding 3 Armoured Division Jos, Plateau State.

According to Leadership, the protesting soldiers led by Sergeant Abiona Elisha stormed the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Plateau state secretariat yesterday January 16th, holding placards calling for their reinstatement into the army.

According to their leader, they were dismissed from the Army on Tuesday January 13th after being called from their various operation units to face a panel at the barracks and without being given any fair hearing or told what their offenses were.

Some of the soldiers alleged that their refusal to fight members of Boko Haram in October 2014 led to their dismissal.
“We were dismissed this week Tuesday from the service of the Nigerian Army after sending us to go and suffer fighting insurgency in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states. All of a sudden, we were recalled to the barracks and made to face trial. Even at the trial, we were not given the chance to defend ourselves. They just took a decision and dismissed us. We were not even told what our offences were during the so-called trial. We are surprised that we can be treated like this in our own country. We were sent to fight insurgents without weapons; a lot of our colleagues were killed in the course of defending our father land. Even those who are in hospital treating injuries they sustained from the battle field were also dismissed while still on hospital admission. The worst situation is that families of our colleagues killed in Adamawa and Yobe are languishing in hunger as the Nigerian Army refused to pay their entitlement ”Sergeant Abiona said
When contacted, the the deputy director, army public relation of the 3 Armoured Division, Col Texas Chukwu denied knowledge of the dismissal of the soldiers.
“I have no knowledge of the issue, I just came back from Maiduguri, I am not aware if any soldier was dismissed.” he said

LAGOS: Akin Ambode is my choice since day one – Fashola

The Lagos state Governor has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has always been his choice candidate all through the build up to the APC governorship primaries held over a month ago in the state.

He stated this during a parley organized by the Lagos APC to formally present their gubernatorial candidate and his running mate, Dr. (Mrs) Oluranti Adebule, to media executives in Lagos.

The governor noted that the party was actually “spoilt for choice” by having a pool of competent aspirants to elect from, but that he was happy that Ambode emerged as the victorious flag bearer.

Fashola said, “It was a healthy problem; that we had many competent and accomplished aspirants to choose from. It clearly demonstrates the rich human capital we have in Lagos, in Lagos APC”
In his presentation, Governor Fashola said Ambode is “someone who has the ability to rigorously ensure that things tally, his accountability is just unmatched. He has the befitting skill-set needed to build upon the successes we have recorded so far, and that is why I am happy at his candidature”.

He added, “Our party had a democratic and transparent gubernatorial primaries, and I am proud and happy with the results it has produced. This is because Akin has been my choice from the beginning, and I say this unequivocally”

While reflecting on his tenure, Fashola noted that Lagos has consistently undergone enviable and noteworthy transformation, adding that Ambode had the experience to better such transformation.

“I have worked with Akin and I can attest to his vast experience. He knows the government and understands governance, and his application of this capacity-enhancing know-how will surely ensure that there is continuity in the tradition of excellence we are now known for in Lagos”.

In his response, Ambode, who was full of appreciation to the Governor and the Party for making the parley happen, stated that public service was a form of nobility for him.

“All my life, I have practiced selfless service to humanity in varying capacities. This has enabled me to take public service as a noble one.

“The success and productivity that characterized my public service career makes me believe strongly that I was conscripted to excel in service to the people, and this is the reason why I desire to serve Lagos as the Governor of the state”.

The state APC party Chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale, capped off the interactive parley by remarking that the forthcoming election is a “simple choice between experience and experiment, I trust you all to make the wise choice and vote for the APC”.

I don’t want to leave Stoke Said ''Osaze''

Osaze 3
Recuperating Nigerian striker Osaze Odemwingie is happy with his gradual return to full fitness and has again openly declared that he would be happy to stay on with Stoke City beyond the summer when his current contract expires.

Odemwingie 33, has been out for nearly five months after damaging an anterior cruciate ligament in a 1-0 win at Manchester City but the striker says he is hoping to be back soon to show that he deserves an extension.

“It has been a big blow but hopefully, I can get back and get my career going again as soon as possible.” Odemwingie told Radio Stoke.

He added: “I have not had discussions about extending my contract yet but there is no rush for that.
“At the moment, we are in the transfer window and there are players who are key players to the team right now who have more pressing situations.
“I saw Peter Crouch saying he would like to stay not just for one year with Stoke but maybe more and I am the same. It’s a really good place to be and a great club.

“You have to be realistic but if I can get back training and show the manager I can still put the ball in the net then everything else will take care of itself.
“You can lose form but you don’t lose your quality.” He concluded.

SUPER EAGLES: THE MISSED OPPORTUNITY

super eagles1
As the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off this weekend in Equatorial Guinea without defending champions Nigeria, soccer aficionado GODWIN DUDU-ORUMEN recalls a prophetic article that he wrote when the Super Eagles won the trophy in 2013…

Super Eagles against all odds lifted the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa, disposing of tournament favourities, Cote d’Ivoire in the quarter finals, a gritty Mali at the semi-finals and the dark horse from Burkina Faso in the finals, with whom of course the ‘ganged up’ with tzhe group stages to show out defending champion Zambia.

I am quick to add that I was one person who had reservations about the Super Eagles and their chances pre-tournament. The unsure steps and play in preparation matches and the group matches did nothing to inspire confidence in me.

But Stephen Keshi and his men somehow found that inner strength, grit, commitment, sense of purpose to turn out a famous result which ended nineteen years of trophy drought. Eagles finally discarded that also-ran toga and become Super again. I congratulate Keshi and the players for giving Nigerians something good, something precious to smile and talk about again. And before the din dies down, let’s begin to ponder on how to manage this success. Let us begin the process of managing the great achievement, the rebirth of a great brand, even if the custodians of our football, NFF chose to play Nero. We must begin to take them to task over the future of the team.

Winning the Africans Cup of Nation 2013 presents Super Eagles and Nigeria endless commercial opportunities which can earn the football governing body at least seven billion naira over the next one year and more over the coming years if the success is properly managed. And it is quite possible and easy. Not rocket science. Going forward we may need to take historical stock of what we have done with similar opportunities in the past which were in fact wasted. A proper evaluation of same may afford us the right stimuli to adequately and proportionally maximize the benefits of what we have, a new brand, Super Eagles, Champions of Africa and winner 2013 AFCON.

Ronaldo: I Will Play Until I’m 36

cristiano-ronaldo

–Real superstar eyes six more career years
With his 30th birthday just three weeks away, Cristiano Ronaldo has brushed off any fears that father time is moving ever closer to catching up with him by revealing he plans on playing at the top level until he is 36.

The Real Madrid star won his third Ballon d’Or on Monday, beating off competition from Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer, and remains at the very peak of his powers.

But rather than fear the effects age will eventually have on his ability to perform, Ronaldo remains solely focused on maintaining his incredible standards well into his thirties.
“I’m exclusively devoted to training and making myself better and to maintain a good level until I’m 35 or even 36,” he told AS.

“You have to give up other things to be a success. There are many temptations. It is very difficult. Nothing is achieved without work. The dedication and work is the most important thing to me.
“Life is a puzzle and every day we must there is a new piece to add. To succeed we must have rules and discipline. Talent is useless without dedication and commitment.”
Ronaldo won his first Ballon d’Or in 2008 during his six years in England with Manchester United before departing for Madrid the following summer.

Peace Pact Will Only Work If Security Agencies Stay Neutral– APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the peace accord signed by all the presidential candidates on Wednesday January 14, ahead of the February elections would only work if the Presidency ensures the neutrality of the security agencies during the polls.
Jonathan and Buhari in Abuja7
Lai Mohammed, the spokesperson of the party, disclosed this at a conference organized by the Savannah Centre and CSIS Partnership on polls, in Abuja on Thursday January 16.
The theme of the two-day conference is “Nigeria 2015 Elections and Beyond, Stakeholders Conference on the Roles of State and Non-State Actors in Mitigating Violence in Elections.

Mohammed, who was a speaker at the forum alongside officials of other political parties, said though the peace pact signed by presidential candidates of the parties, including President Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari of the PDP and  APC, respectively was desirable, it would only be effective if the operatives of the security agencies that would be deployed during the election were neutral.

He said the opposition party was already losing confidence in one of the agencies.
“It will not be successful if there is no sincerity of purpose. I think in this particular respect, the Presidency has more to do if it wants the election to be violent-free It has to ensure the neutrality of all the security agencies involved in the election,” he said.
“As long as there is a level-playing field and the umpires are really neutral then that removes areas of conflict.”

Mr. Mohammed added, “The credibility of the security agencies is at its lowest ebb. I don’t know how many of you watch the television two days ago when the spokesperson of Department of State Security went to demonize a particular party, accusing that party of being in the process hacking into INEC data base. What they sought to achieve by that I don’t know.

“You need to see the kind of humiliation they went through in the hands of DSS. They went through physical torture and mental torture. These young people arrested were called presidential enemies. They were called saboteurs; they were asked how can you working with a party that wants to destabilize Nigeria? If this is the mindset of a particular security agencies there is no way that party will have confidence in that agency.”

The spokesperson of the APC also noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have a big responsibility to ensure the success of the 2015 general elections.
The Peoples Democratic Party also reacted to the recent peace pact that was signed by all the presidential candidates. The party commended its presidential candidate, President Jonathan, and others for signing a pact on non-violence ahead of the general election, noting that the development was in line with the irrevocable commitment of the ruling party to the peace and progress of the country at all times.

My Top Ten Life Verses

I’ve been talking about blogging a top-ten list of Bible verses for a few years, but hadn’t – until now. After loving responses to Mandisa's Facebook post asking people to share their theme or "life" verses, I was inspired to finally share my list. Yes, I even ranked them – and, in some cases, that was no small feat! There are countless others that I love, but these are the ones that currently are most central in my life. At some point I have memorized each, and they run through my head periodically, in various situations. Let's count down to number one.

10. 2 Cor. 1: 3-7

This is a newer one for me. God really spoke to me about this passage late last year while listening to
this message from one my favorite pastors, Miles McPherson from the Rock Church. Through the passage God convicted me about more intentionally using the comfort He has given me in my experiences to then comfort others. This was a different call to me than just being an encouraging person, which is comfortable for me. Instead, it was going a step further by taking the time to pointedly - but genuinely - ask people God places around me how they are doing, and then share how God is working in my life in ways that comfort them in their situations. Until we die, we will always be going through some struggle! It’s been amazing how, in living with these verses in mind, God has opened my eyes to so many spiritual needs around me that I had previously overlooked.

These verses also have been such a reminder that, as Christians, comforting others through Him is a big part of why God puts us here! In a culture where self-promotion has been ingratiated in our lives through outlets such as social media, we can easily get caught up in making our lives about our individual pursuits and seeking praise from others, but God calls us to
be more concerned with others than ourselves. We shouldn’t waste the experiences and comfort God gives us to navigate life’s challenges by keeping it all to ourselves and just sharing our high points. Let’s let God get the glory in all circumstances! As I contemplate this verse, I’m encouraged to keep at the “comfort” pursuit for the rest of my life!

9. Philippians 1:6

This
whole section of Philippians 1 is my favorite passage for the Body of Christ, especially for close friends who are believers. I also love verse 6 for the perspective it gives me for my own life. That God is doing a work in each believer that He will ultimately finish when we get to heaven gives me hope about our present and our future, and puts relationship issues in particular – squabbles, disagreements, personality clashes, hurts, fears, the list goes on – in the perspective of eternity. Knowing God is working on each of us gives me the grace to forgive, seek forgiveness – and grow!

8. Colossians 1:17

If you’ve gotten an email from me, you’ve probably seen this verse in my signature line. I got this one in Fall 2007 from one of the girls in a college small group I was leading then. She shared how it gets her through life. Her testimony – and the verse – really resonated with me at that point in my life. I was in my last year of law school, trying to finish my classes strong and prepare for graduation and taking the bar exam. I also was anxious about what the future held for my career and other aspects of my life, at times being overwhelmed by all the possibilities! And that year the financial crisis hit. There was so much talk about not being able to find a job – I wondered whether the job offer I had would be rescinded. Yet whenever I remembered Colossians 1:17 – that He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together – all the chaos did not even matter, because I could rest in the fact that God is in complete control. The verse has continued to comfort me, especially in everyday situations – I may feel that I have so many things to do in one day and not enough time to do them, but I’m reminded that in Christ, I have everything I need. It encourages me to take a moment to seek His wisdom even in the most busy situations, knowing that He is my source and enables me to do my best in all situations.
The whole section of the chapter, on the supremacy of Christ, is good for that, too! I thank God for holding it all together so I don’t have to try – and fail – to!

7. 2 Corinthians 9:7

Now we’re getting into my lifers – the verses that have shaped me since childhood. This one’s from second grade.
I’ve blogged about this verse in a couple entries on giving, so I won’t say too much about it. Knowing that my Heavenly Father loves a cheerful giver has made me give without reluctance or compulsion, because giving is not about pleasing people, but Him. And He so loved us that He gave The Indescribable Gift - His only Son! I have found the promises from the whole passage to be true: when you give with a cheerful heart, God really does take care of you, and He gets the glory for your giving – what it’s all about! While true, godly giving doesn’t give to get, God makes promises to those who sow generously as compared to those who sow sparingly. There’s nothing better than giving to the praise of the most generous, loving Father, who can never be “out-given!”

6. 1 Timothy 4:12

I believe I first learned this verse as a song in elementary school that still plays in my head when I think about it, lol. I’ve shared that I’ve had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ since I was three or four years old and truly remember knowing then that my life would be different because I had met Him. I’ve had the privilege of walking with Him since. Growing up – and to this day – this verse has really helped me navigate my faith as a young person. Through hearing this verse repeated in my context by parents, teachers and youth leaders, I got the message that I don’t have to be a “grown up” to follow Jesus – I can do it right where I am, and in every aspect of my life: speech, life (or conduct), love, faith and purity. In doing so, I am setting an example for others - the young, old, and somewhere in between. I won’t be young forever, but I will always be who I am in Christ because of God saving and shaping me first in my youth. It also encourages me to invest in the next generation, knowing that they too can commit to serving Christ today.

5. Hebrews 4:12 / Psalm 19:7-14

Okay, so I know these are two different passages, but, “what had happened was..." I have these passages that I call “tandem verses”, lol: in my mind, one verse or passage on one topic is inextricably linked to the other. Memorizing these verses as a kid helped shape my understanding of the preeminent power of God’s Word. That it’s living and active and has the might to shape my every decision – and, in turn, my entire life – never ceases to amaze me. That means the more I interact with it – read it, meditate on it, memorize it – I can’t help but be changed.

One of my mottos (which I came up with long before “there’s an app for that”, lol) is “there’s a verse for that,” meaning there is literally a Scripture for every situation in life (which is different from saying that every life situation is directly addressed in Scripture - what I'm saying is that there is a principle for approaching every life situation, even if the situation itself is not directly addressed. I have never had a life situation where I have not been able to apply Scripture, either directly or indirectly). I began memorizing Scripture regularly when I was three or four. As I continued to memorize Scripture as I grew up, I had no idea how much it would shape my life. When you allow the Word of God to be written on your heart, through its amazing power, you find that you can only be different. Yet I believe we sleep on its power so much! God’s Word really is all that He says it is, and these verses are a wonderful reminder of how we are transformed by it. It’s awesome!

4. Jeremiah 29:11 / 1 Corinthians 2:9

Okay, another tandem set. In response to Mandisa’s post requesting people share their life verses, Jeremiah 29:11 was the number one response, and for good reason. I too am on the Jeremiah 29:11 – and 1 Corinthians 2: 9 – train, and I believe every Christian should be on it! Of all the verses on my top ten(ish) list - with the exception of one, these two verses have meant the most to me over the last few years. I also memorized them as a child and they resonated with me then, but even more so now. As the years pass, more of life happens: things unexpected; some seemingly great, others seemingly not. Yet when I remember that God’s plans for me are always good – plans to prosper me and not to harm me, and to give us a hope and a future – and that no eye has seen, ear heard or mind conceived what God has in store for those who love Him –
whew, and Amen!– I (and we) can trust that my Heavenly Father knows what He’s doing and loves me, even when I don’t understand it. And, further, 1 Corinthians 2:9 reminds me that His plans for me are not only for this life, but also for heaven, which will be unimaginably spectacular!

3. Psalm 139:14

Omo-Sexy Rated One Of Highest Grossing Movie Stars

Yahoo has listed Nollywood Superstar Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde aka “Omosexy” as one of   ‘Highest-Grossing Movie Stars in the world.
Omotola Jalade
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde
The list titled “The Highest-Grossing Movie Stars You’ve Probably Never Heard Of” consists of the 10 highest grossing movie stars from the Hollywood, Nollywood and Bollywood movie industry, who have achieved great success during their career but have not received the recognition they deserve for their work.

Yahoo writes about Omosexy thus:
We’ll wager not only have you not heard of Omotola Jalade Ekeinde – or ‘Omosexy’ as her fans call her – but we reckon you probably haven’t even heard of the industry she spearheads: Nollywood.

Yes, that’s Nigeria’s version Hollywood, in which Omosexy dominates – she has over 300 film credits to her name (although most go straight to video). In her homeland she’s like a cross between Oprah Winfrey and Kim Kardashian, with her own reality TV series following her and her family.

Though it’s nigh on impossible to determine what her box-office total is, given that the Nigerian film industry is mostly one that distributes through market stalls and street corners, it is estimated to be worth upwards of £320 million a year – and Omosexy is a Nollywood cornerstone.
Recently, Omosexy marked her 20th year anniversary in the showbiz industry by giving gift items for the less privileged in a act of charity.

A breathtaking image of  Jesus Christ appeared before the eyes of a stunned photographer near the Icelandic town of Akranes.

The lucky photographer Jón Hilmarsson was taking pictures of the northern lights when a huge silhouette strongly resembling Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, appeared.

Jón said: “This was the most beautiful and vivid northern light display I have ever seen. We usually see green auroras but that night I saw bright green, red and purple colour, which is very unusual. Many people see the shape of Christ but also an angel formation.

Pope says ‘cannot insult’ other people’s religion

Pope Francis today condemned any killing in God’s name, but also insisted there were limits to freedom of speech and said other people’s religion could not be insulted or mocked.

The pope made the comments in relation to attacks by Islamists on the offices of French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo last week in which 12 people died.

“To kill in the name of God is an absurdity,” the pope told reporters aboard a plane travelling from Sri Lanka to the Philippines.

But the 78-year-old pontiff also said “each religion has its dignity” and “there are limits”.
“You cannot provoke, you cannot insult other people’s faith, you cannot mock it,” the pontiff said.
“Freedom of speech is a right and a duty that must be displayed without offending.”
The Charlie Hebdo assault on January 7 was followed two days later by an attack on a kosher supermarket in Paris by a gunman claiming to have coordinated his actions with the two brothers who attacked the magazine.

In all, 17 people died over three days in the bloodiest attacks in France in half a century, which ended when commando units stormed two hostage sieges and killed all three gunmen.
The magazine this week published a “survivors” issue, which sold out yesterday before more copies of an eventual print run of five million hit newsstands.

Much later in life, she told her biographer, “I pay all my own bills ... I want to choose the man. I do not permit men to choose me.”
3. Queen Victoria

Here are ten things ladies should never say to their men:

  1. Man up
This emasculating phrase is never, ever appropriate. He is a man. If he’s not meeting your expectations, learn to communicate this clearly and without insult. Moreover if he is not man enough, he won’t ask you out.
  1. We need to talk
Yes, you should talk to your man. No, you should not warn him that you need to talk about something yet-to-be-described that will likely be uncomfortable. This phrase is the most likely to shift him into defensive mode. Try a more loving approach and you will surely get better results.
  1. Size doesn’t matter
If size doesn’t matter, don’t talk about size. Didn’t u see him as a fat man or too thin for you before you accepted his proposal?
  1. Is she prettier than me?

South African politician attacks Jonathan, call him “irresponsible” for silence over killing in Baga
South Africa’s eccentric youth leader and federal lawmaker, Julius Malema, has launched a blistering attack on President Goodluck Jonathan over his handling of the massacre in Baga, Borno State, describing the Nigerian president as “irresponsible” and suggesting South African intervention against the extremist Boko Haram sect.
Mr. Malema, who leads the Economic Freedom Fighters Party, criticised Mr. Jonathan for rushing out public condemnations of the terrorist attack on a newspaper in France when he has remained silent until date on the bloodbath in Baga, a troubled town in his own country.

The youth leader said the South African National Assembly will consider a motion on a possible intervention in the bloody campaign by Boko Haram that has claimed thousands of lives and has worsened in the last weeks.
Boko Haram seized Baga, a fishing community on the northern tip of Borno State by Lake Chad, sacking the military base there and killing soldiers and hundreds of civilians.
Speaking at a press briefing, Mr. Malema mocked Mr. Jonathan using his first name, Goodluck.
“Eh Goodlook, or Goodluck or whatever his name is or badluck I don’t know …He is quick to release statement about the killing in Paris; but don’t (doesn’t) say anything about the killings in his own country. That’s an irresponsible leadership,” Mr. Malema said.
“We are really saddened by what is happening in Nigeria. It is highly disturbing.  And we need South African Government to intervene and we will be raising the matter in the Parliament.
“We will make the Parliament to debate it as an urgent matter and pass the resolution for South African intervention in Nigeria,” he said.

OSHOALA: I WANT TO PLAY IN EUROPE BUT…

FBL-JPN-WC2012-U20-WOMEN
Africa Women’s Player of the Year award winner, Asisat Oshoala tells SAB OSUJI in this interview that she’s comfortable playing in the Nigerian league. The Rivers Angels FC star also reveals her delight winning double African honours and dedicates the awards to God and her teammates. Excerpts…

Congratulation for winning the two CAF awards as young player of the year and footballer of the year as well.
First of all I will say thank you for congratulating me.
What does these awards mean to you as a young player?

I’ll say the awards mean quite a lot to me. It means a lot to my career as well. Reason is that I don’t see it as if I’ve reached the peak (of my career). Its rather the beginning of a journey in my career as a footballer. Not the climax I must say. Its some kind of challenge, a motivation to step up and be a better player always.
Every player aspires to play in Europe, are you not feeling same way especially after becoming the best in the continent?

To be sincere with you, I’ve a lot of clubs knocking on the door for me to move. But truth is that I’m not yet decided, I’m not in a hurry to move, either on the local scene or out there in Europe. I’m not yet decided if, when and where to go. Make no mistakes about it, the Nigeria (women’s) league is a good league because if a player from the domestic league could emerge as the Best Player in Africa it tells the whole story that what we’ve here is a very good league. However talking about leaving Africa now I’m yet to decide and I’m not in a hurry to do that at the moment.
You won two awards in the Canada 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. You won the MVP at the AWC same year. You also won the Nigeria League and Federation Cup last year and today you started the new year (2015) with two awards, what’s the significance of this?

I don’t think there is anything special about it. I believe things happen the way and time God plans them. Its God’s doing and I’m happy for it. Its just that some how its a challenge for me to continue to work hard. But winning the League and Federation Cups last year was great.
Did you expect to win these two awards tonight?
I’ll only say thank you to those who voted for me to win. As a player, I always go out there hoping to do my best and also expect to win in every single game. To win two awards today I must say was not in my hands to decide. So I’m happy and grateful to have won.
Tell me Asisat, who do you want to dedicate the awards to?

First and foremost, I’m dedicating the awards to Almighty God. God comes first in everything in my life. Secondly, I’ll dedicate the awards to teammates both at the club level and national teams. Football is a team sport, you don’t play it alone. So without my teammates at the club level I wouldn’t have played well for me to be noticed and selected for the national team. The same way, without my teammates at the national teams, I wouldn’t have done anything. I also dedicate it to my fans who support and pray for me always. I can’t thank them enough. So the award is for all of us.
Finally, you had the singular honor of witnessing the FIFA Ballon D’Or Award ceremony in Switzerland on Monday. How did that make you feel?

To be honest with you, I felt very happy about it, it was a very impressive ceremony and I enjoyed every bit of it.
It was amazing, it was such an important date in my life and I’ll live to cherish it so much. To be present witnessing the FIFA Ballon D’Or live, I tell you, I was very happy about it and I commend FIFA for giving me the opportunity.

Busty Actress Foluke Daramola & Hubby Campaign for Buhari -

When such a bodacious stuff is on the road for Buhari...just know that this election is serious. Lolz!

Photos: Jonathan and Buhari sign violence-free polls pact

President Goodluck Jonathan, General Muhammadu Buhari (ret) and 12 other presidential candidates has signed an undertaking to ensure free and fair polls as well as run issue-based campaigns for the forthcoming general elections in the country.

They gave their words at a workshop: “2015 General Elections: Sensitization workshop on Non-Violence”. Jonathan and Buhari put aside their electoral fisticuffs and embraced excitedly upon arriving for the workshop as the two leading contenders for the office of President.

Apart from the duo, the chairmen of the two dominant parties, Adamu Mu’azu (PDP) and Odigie Oyegun (APC), also hugged themselves in a bid to send a signal to their supporters to shun violence.

This came as all the 14 presidential candidates of the various parties contesting the election also signed a peace agreement to ensure free, fair and credible polls.

The peace agreement otherwise known as “Abuja Accord” by the organizers of the event essentially barred the contestants from making inciting speeches in whatever guise that could cause the eruption of violence before, during and after the elections.

The Accord
The accord read: “We the undersigned presidential candidates of the under-listed political parties contesting in the general elections of 2015; desirous of taking proactive measures to prevent electoral violence before, during and after the elections; anxious about the maintenance of a peaceful environment for the 2015 general elections; reaffirming our commitment to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; desirous of sustaining and promoting the unity and corporate existence of Nigeria as an indivisible entity; determined to avoid any conduct or behaviour that will endanger the political stability and national security of Nigeria; determined to place national interest above personal and partisan concerns; and reaffirm our commitment to fully abide by all rules and regulations as laid down in the legal framework for elections in Nigeria, hereby commit ourselves and our party to the following:

*To run issue-based campaigns at national, state and local government levels; in this, we pledge to refrain from campaigns that will involve religious incitement, ethnic or tribal profiling; both ourselves and agents acting in our names.

*To refrain from making, or causing to make our names or that of our party, any public statements, pronouncements, declarations or speeches that have the capacity to incite any form of violence, before, during and after the elections.
