I’m Of Sound Mind And Body- AMBODE

Ambode Campaign Organisation has reacted to the allegations that the Gubernatorial candidate of the Lagos APC has a history of mental disorder. Read below:
It has come to the attention of the Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign Organization the wicked, baseless and cowardly lies being circulated about our candidate for the Lagos State Governorship Position, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.
The jittery opposition will stop at nothing in its smear campaign having failed to contain the soaring popularity of the APC Governorship candidate. But we are neither bothered nor discouraged; and we know that our numerous supporters and the generality of well-meaning Lagosians can see through the lies and desperations of those who dread a crushing defeat at the forthcoming election.
We know the source of this evil story as well as their despicable trumpeters. Well, we’ve got news for them… April 11, 2015 is almost here and it’s a date with history, when the good people of Lagos State will once again reject the evil machinations of those political marauders trying so hard to hijack their destiny.

For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Ambode neither suffers from any ailment nor has ever met or been treated by a certain Dr. Lanre Adeoye. This fictional tale should be disregarded in its entirety.

With a clear focus, sound mind and in good health, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode shall be unwavering in his campaigns and strategic consultations to retain Lagos State for the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Fashola is working, Lagos is moving and Ambode is ready. No weapon of the opposition can stand against this obvious choice of the people.

 Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola.
Fashola during a meeting between members of the APC and the organized private sector in Marina, Lagos. The Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola has explained the difference between his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “The manifesto of the APC is designed to address 2015 problems going on to 2019 while PDP has is a 1999 manifesto and that probably explains the disconnect between our realities and the realities that you hear. The transformation that has been put forth has headed south not west,” Fashola said.

“The Naira has weakened, interest rates has come up and it is for us to chose whether we want four more years of that and the Naira is essential in a free fall in an economy that is currently import denominated and it would only mean that the purchasing power of our disposable income would continue to reduce,” he added.

“The necessity of now is to halt that free fall. That is something we cannot vote continuity on. I will not. But more importantly as the candidate, Gen Buhari, has said, it is essentially not how much really Nigeria earns, it is what value we get out of that money,” the governor continued. “If we had sold crude oil, our major income earner for like almost 5-6 years at over a $100 per barrel and all of us are saying there is pain, do we want to continue now when there is reduced income with the same team on the same management capacity.

If they couldn’t do topnotch at $100 per barrel, can we trust them to do more with less?” he said. The APC and the PDP are viewed as the major contenders in the upcoming general elections.

Slow Cooker Beans

Happy New Year Everyone. Hope you’re still at your resolutions. (By my clock, we all have another few hours before we abandon them completely.) Me? I grabbed 2015 by the horns – I think by noon on January 1, the tree had been disrobed and curbed; the basement, organized; the contents of Phoebe’s Fibber-McGee-and-Molly closet sorted into three boxes – keep, hand-me-down, goodwill; and all those little ziplocs from the freezer containing mysterious frost-bitten contents had been laid out on the counter like crime scene evidence, waiting to be identified and put to use. Of course, these little triumphs are usually more likely found on a to-do list than an “I Resolve” list, but it felt good anyway. My real resolutions – eat healthier lunches, not blow my next book deadline, find a new hobby that doesn’t involve a screen (I’m taking nominations), snack better, listen to more podcasts – aren’t necessarily the kinds of things one checks off a list after a few hours of caffeine-fueled determination. Or ever, actually. (I’m always afraid to read back my archive of New Year’s posts to see how ineffective this whole exercise is.)
As anyone who has ever reorganized their sock drawer instead of dealing with a deadline knows, it’s so much easier to control what’s right in front of you, and what was in front of me on January 1 were those freezer bags. Chunks of Benton’s Bacon, misshapen ziplocs of homemade stock, a few heels of Parmesan, three small bags that each contained one or two canned tomatoes, five (five!) black bananas. I knew there were some orphaned bags of dried white beans in the pantry, some onions, basil leaves, and nearing-their-end carrots in the fridge, so I unceremoniously dumped everything into the slow cooker (minus the bananas which would be put to use the next day) and pressed the 6-hour button. Warning: What I’m about to say might send a few of you into a tailspin, but I’m going to say it anyway. Here it goes: I have not been loving my slow-cooker. I know I’ve only had it three months, and that hardly counts as giving it much of a go, but the truth is, so far, most of what has been ladled out of the thing has left me wanting more. Or something different. (Even Phoebe the other day, when told we were having chili, asked “Can it not be the one you make in the slow-cooker?”) I think most of the problem lies in the fact that I have been using it to translate dishes that I’ve been cooking in the Dutch Oven for over a decade – so there’s a standard to meet. Not just Phoebe’s chili, but short ribs, and pork loins, too. But my kitchen-dump beans? These made the cut. Rich, stewy, smoky, they were somewhere between a meatless cassoulet and minestrone, and I must say, most excellent with a piece of crusty bread. Since I had so much room in the freezer, I ladled the whole thing into a new batch of single-serve soup bags. In other words, More Healthy Lunches: Check! At least til next week.
A Recipe-ish for Slow Cooker White Beans Another reason why this was a success? I didn’t measure anything. (The whole dump-it-in thing is 100% of slow cooker’s appeal for me.) I used about a one-inch chunk of the bacon – that’s the great thing about good bacon, you don’t need a lot — but you can leave it out altogether if you’d prefer to make this meatless. Then I’m guessing about a 14-ounce can’s worth of chicken stock, same for whole tomatoes. Then about 8-10 ounces of dried white beans (Navy or Cannellini), a parm rind, about 10 basil leaves, half a large onions (chopped) and a third a bag of baby carrots. I set to 6-hours, pouring water into it every now and then so that beans would be fully submerged. If there had been any greens in my fridge – kale, spinach, chard – I would’ve tossed them in at the end. Serve with crusty bread or in bowls with freshly shaved Parm and a drizzle of olive oil.

Bobbi Kristina: Family Says Cops Found Drugs in House

It has now been confirmed that police found drugs in Bobbi Kristina's house in the wake of her near drowning and this is according to her family. TMZ reports that over the weekend, cops went back a second time to search the house. The first time they went they found nothing, but they went a second time and seized several items.
Cops will not confirm they found drugs, but family sources tell TMZ authorities told the family that is indeed what was found. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... they believed from the beginning Bobbi Kristina ended up face down in a bathtub as a result of drugs. As for why cops didn't find anything during the first search, Law enforcement said they were only looking for items that were "out in the open." The second search however was more thorough.

Hoodlums Strangle, Cut off Woman’s Private Parts in Ketu (Photo)
Hoodlums Strangle, Cut off Woman’s Private Parts in Ketu Photo A woman has been strangled to death by yet-to-be identified persons, who also cut off her private parts. Her corpse was abandoned on Oniyanrin Street in the Mile 12, Ketu area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that people living in the area discovered that there was no gunshot wound or stab injury on the body, except that she was dead and her body part cut off. The corpse was laid in front of a shop and was covered with clothes.

A resident, Mr. Abayomi Odegbami, said on Monday that the unidentified woman was a regular face in the community, and usually slept in one of the shops. He added that she was last seen by residents on Saturday, adding that residents suspected that she was killed in the evening. He said:

“Nobody knows exactly what happened to her. We just discovered that they strangled her and cut off her private parts. We suspect that what they were really interested in was her private parts.

This incident happened on Saturday and the corpse is already decomposing. We have been calling the emergency numbers for some time now, and they have not come around. Our fear is that the corpse could burst and spread disease in the area.

” He added that such incidents had become a common sight in the area, adding that a similar one was recorded last year. “I believe it has a ritual undertone and may not be unconnected with the coming elections because a similar thing happened last year and it was a man. A part of his body was also removed while his corpse was abandoned,” he said.

After the matter was reported to policemen at the Ketu division, emergency officials later arrived around 4pm on Monday to pick up the corpse. A source in the area said the officials insisted on collecting money before they could evacuate the corpse from the scene. He said:

“They said they also heard about it on Saturday. They said we should pay them before they remove the body. Where do we get the money from?” When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident.

He, however, said it was a case of sudden and unnatural death. He added that the victim’s private parts were not cut off as speculated by residents of the area. He said, “It’s a case of sudden and unnatural death. No part of her body was cut off.”

Feb. 14? Nigerians face a stark choice, Who would you trust on.

Trust is a fragile thing. As a citizen of a nation, our trust in government allows us to feel safe; to go about our daily lives without the fear. Yet in Nigeria, insecurity is at an all-time high.

This is a country in which 294 days ago, over 200 girls were ripped from the lives as they knew it and were left without recourse. This is a nation where the epicenter of industry and commerce in its region, Maiduguri, is facing repeated, audacious attacks by a terrorist group insurgency.
Nigerians have the power to change that; to take the first step in protecting themselves. It is a permanent voter card, and it can be used to change the government and change the country's abysmal status quo.

As Nigeria moves into the final days leading up to the election, this video release asks the question: who would Nigerians trust? A man who has created our abysmal present situation, or a man who has proven security credential when dealing with terrorist incursion. Nigerians have a choice. Who should they trust?

Patience Jonathan reacts to alleged N3b bribe from NNDC

First Lady Patience Jonathan has debunked media report alleging that she was paid N3 billion by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for facilitating the 2015 Budget of the commission.

According to the report, Mrs Jonathan collaborated with former Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike in a number of schemes that enable them loot the the NDDC dry.

But refuting the report, the First Lady in a statement by her media assistant, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi described the report as a hoax by the opposition targeted at misleading and recruiting unsuspecting Nigerians to portray her overbearing and meddlesome.

Adewuyi noted that the said report is “dubious, diversionary, unfair, unkind, and therefore totally unacceptable” because Dame Patience “did no such thing”.
The statement reads in part: “We make bold to say that the piece is nothing but a hoax, aimed at misleading unsuspecting members of the public, recruit them into their hate campaign against the First Lady and to again portray Dame Patience Jonathan as an overbearing and intrusive woman against her well known passion for peace and advancement of the course of women and children in Nigeria.

"Nigerians are very conversant with the workings of the National Assembly regarding passage of Budgets. Parliamentary process requires that the Appropriation Bill goes through First Reading, Second Reading and Third Reading and subsequent harmonization by the two chambers.

“One then wonders at which level of this process the First Lady influenced the passage of NDDC Budget that warranted her being paid 3 billion Naira for the alleged “Consultancy” Therefore, it will be impossible for one single person to influence its passage or is the author trying to indict our law makers?”

Waoh! Nigeria Joined Israel, In Britain Disliked As North Korea Is Rated Most Hated Across Europe

Independent report. A latest survey carried out by Think Tank Chatham House on public attitudes towards other countries, 35 per cent of Britons said they felt “especially unfavorably” towards Israel, an increase of 18 per cent since 2012, while people’s unfavorable feelings towards Iran dropped from 45 per cent to 33 per cent. North Korea on the other hand beat them both however, with 47 per cent of Britons feeling “especially unfavorably” towards the nation led by Kim Jong-un.

The research, entitled ‘Internationalism or Isolationism? British attitudes towards the UK’s international priorities’ classed the top five least favorably nations as North Korea, Israel, Iran, Pakistan and Nigeria.

It was conducted during August 2014, which the researchers noted was at a time when “Israel was engaged in a military operation in Gaza against Hamas that caused large numbers of civilian casualties”. The researchers suggested the prominence of this news at the time contributed to the increase in unfavourable feelings towards Israel.

OPINION: Who Stands For The Youth Between GEJ And GMB?

Ahead of next month’s presidential elections in Nigeria, a renowned political commentator, Oche Joseph Otorkpa, has explained why it would favour Nigerian youths to cast their votes for incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.

According to Otorkpa, who is the publisher of Tsuntsu Hausa newspaper, prior to President Jonathan’s era, thousands of young and qualified Nigerians have consistently found it difficult to secure admission into Nigerian universities, lack of slots and over population forced many schools to turn back very qualified young Nigerians, a situation Jonathan considered unacceptable. In a bid to correct this anomaly, the President swung into action and constructed 12 brand new Universities from scratch sweeping thousands of young Nigerians into various degree programmes in the process.
