The
Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has said the campaign visit of
President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday will end the crisis that has
rocked the party in the last four months.
It also said over 100,000 people were expected at the Jonathan rally which would hold at the Democracy Park in Akure.
Publicity
Secretary of the party, Banji Okunomo, said in Akure on Monday that the
rally would be the best held so far by the party going by the
determination of the people of the state to give President Jonathan a
rousing welcome.
He said,
“The visit of President Jonathan to the sunshine state will complement
his victory at the poll and as well serve as an antidote to the crisis
rocking the party in the state.”
Okunomo
said President Jonathan had recorded unprecedented achievements in all
sectors of the country since he assumed office, particularly in the area
of road network, human empowerment, agricultural, industrial and
educational development.
He however
challenged the APC presidential candidate Gen. Mohammadu Buhari to
explain to the people of Ondo State why his government unlawfully
detained the first civilian governor of the state, late Chief Adekunle
Ajasin and other Yoruba celebrated leaders for offences they never
committed.
He said
Buhari, during his regime as a military leader, deliberatly imprisoned
former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, former governors, Chief Bisi
Onabanjo, Chief Bola Ige, Chief Ambrose Alli, Chief Adekunle Ajasin and
other Yoruba political icons even after the panel of enquiry instituted
by his government to investigate them had exonerated them.
“Buhari
will lose the battle. He will lose in Ondo State because Ondo State
people are angry with him. They have not forgiven him for unlawfully
detaining the first civilian governor of the state, Chief Adekunle
Ajasin.
“The
people expected him to apologize when he came for his rally last week
but Buhari deliberately refused to do so. On the issue of his
certificate, you will find out that there is disparity in the names he
bears.
“For
instance, he bears Mohammadu Buhari in the name he wrote in his INEC
form and bears Mohammed Buhari in the controversial certificate,” he
stressed.
