The
Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Campaign Organisation has asked
the Independent National Electoral Commission to reveal if it was in
possession of the credentials of the presidential candidate of the All
Progressive Congress, retired General Muhammadu Buhari.
The spokesman for the campaign office, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, told reporters in Abuja on Wednesday that it was important to clarify a statement by the opposition party’s presidential candidate that his documents were with the commission.
Mr Fani-Kayode said General Buhari’s comment threw up a lot of questions which had implications on the credibility of the 2015 general elections.
The electoral commission had said documents submitted by General Buhari does not include copies of his certificates, but emphasised that it was not permitted by the law to insist that the APC candidate should submit the original copies of his credentials. It said an affidavit was submitted in place of the required leaving school certificate.
It had advised the ruling party, which had insisted that the opposition candidate should present his credentials, to go to court and contest issues relating to the certificate.
The PDP’s request is coming days after a school in Katsina released General Buhari’s testimonials, showing his results and grades in his final examination.
